Berlin Calling: Heading to the Special Olympics World Games

By Miryam Abraham

Our Munich team is pleased to present “Unbeatable Together: Stories from the 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Berlin“. This book is the result of a remarkable collaboration between Allison and Special Olympics, the world’s largest sports movement for people with intellectual disabilities.

The start of the partnership between Allison and Special Olympics in July 2022 marked the beginning of an exciting journey for our Munich team. Like many other Allison offices, we were passionate about supporting Special Olympics’ messages of inclusion and equal participation for people with intellectual disabilities.

To our great excitement, the Special Olympics World Games took place in Berlin this year, only about a four-hour train ride away from our office in Munich! So, in June 2023, 13 team members of Allison’s Munich office traveled to Berlin as on-site support for the international communication team of Special Olympics.

With this book, we hope to share the experiences and emotions we captured in Berlin. The Special Olympics World Games are much more than just a competitive event where athletes engage in feats of strength, speed and skill. They are a symbol of inclusion, tireless determination and unwavering passion. They are also a place of boundless joy that resides in the hearts of all athletes and trainers, which was almost contagious and found its way into the hearts of the Berlin hosts and the Games‘ visitors.

Download our ebook and gain insight into the moments of happiness, the challenges, and the individual experiences we witnessed in Berlin. They shine a light on how important it is not only to understand inclusion as something theoretical to aspire to, but also as something to live and breathe in daily life. Athletes, coaches and volunteers allowed us glimpses into their lives and shared what the Games mean to them as people and participants. These stories are the result of numerous conversations across the competition venues and allowed us to dive deep into the world of Special Olympics.

We are grateful for the unique opportunity to have been part of this extraordinary event and to have made a small contribution to its success and visibility. Without the motivation, skill and empathy of our colleagues in Munich, this involvement would not have been possible. Our talented team was able to capture emotions, key experiences and successfully share the stories.

We ask you to be inspired by these stories, as your perspective on the world will change.

A reminder that we can all achieve great things and together we are unbeatable!
